About Split PDF
Split PDF cuts one document into several smaller ones — by page ranges you type, by a fixed number of pages, by a file size limit, by a selection you make on the grid, or one file per page.
There are four honest reasons to split a document, and this tool has one mode for each. Custom ranges take a list like 1-4, 7, 9-12 and write a file per range. Every N pages cuts a long document into equal blocks. Under a size limit measures the pages as it goes and closes each file before it crosses the limit you set, which is the mode for an email that bounces anything over ten megabytes. One per page does exactly what it says. A fifth, Selected pages, writes only what you picked on the grid.
A size limit is the only mode whose output cannot be known in advance, because it depends on what the pages actually weigh — a chapter of plain text and a chapter of photographs split very differently. The other four modes draw their cuts straight onto the page grid before you run anything, so you can see where the files will break.
File naming takes a pattern rather than a fixed scheme. report-{n}.pdf numbers the files; {range} writes the pages each one holds. A pattern with neither is refused, because it would give several files one name and the download would quietly lose all but the last.
