About Crop PDF
Crop PDF trims the margins of the pages you pick, either by dragging a box on the page or by typing the four edges in points.
Cropping a PDF does not cut anything away. It sets the CropBox — the rectangle a reader is told to display — so the margins disappear from view while the content behind them is still in the file. That is why cropping is instant and lossless, and why it is the wrong tool for hiding something: what is outside the box can be brought back by widening it again.
The four edges can be dragged on the page or typed in points, which is the accurate way to trim every page by exactly the same amount — useful for a scan with a consistent black border, or a document printed with crop marks still attached.
To remove content rather than hide it, use Redact, which deletes what is under the mark. To make a crop permanent, print the cropped file to a new PDF, which discards everything outside the visible box.
