Convert images: Drop your files hereTakes JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC. Nothing is uploaded — the file is read in this tab.
How it works
  1. Drag it in, choose it, or paste it. It is read here in the tab and never uploaded.
  2. The settings column holds 3 controls for this tool. The defaults suit most files.
  3. “Convert images” works on your device, then Original and Result sit side by side with a download.

About Convert image

Convert image moves a picture between JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF without it ever leaving the tab, with a quality setting for the lossy formats. It also opens HEIC, the format iPhone photos are taken in.

Seven formats in, five out, without leaving the tab. Which one to pick is mostly settled by two questions: does it need transparency, and is it a photograph? PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it right for logos, screenshots and line art and wasteful for photographs. JPG is the oldest and most universally accepted, has no transparency at all, and is fine for photographs. WebP is smaller than both at the same quality and keeps transparency. AVIF is smaller again and takes longer to encode.

Quality appears only for the lossy formats, because there is nothing to trade in a lossless one. Around the default the loss is hard to see on a photograph; well below it, the flat areas start to band and the edges pick up haloes.

Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore what JPEG already threw away — it only stops any more being lost from here on.
