About Image to gradient
Image to gradient turns a picture — a photo, a logo, a screenshot — into a gradient of its own colors, at the picture’s own size or any other, saved as a picture of its own.
From picture, the type it starts on, keeps every color where it is: the picture is boiled down to a few soft patches of color and stretched back smoothly, so the sky stays at the top and the sand at the bottom, with none of the detail left. Detail sets how many patches there are across, and Blur softens them further into one another — a little blur and few patches gives the smooth, glowing look of a wallpaper.
The colors are found by splitting the picture’s pixels into groups of similar color and taking the average of each, so a small patch of a strong color does not crowd out the large areas that set the mood. They are laid out darkest first, which is the order most gradients read well in. This is how the other types — linear, radial, conic and mesh — take their colors. Colors from the picture sets how many, two to six; changing it picks them again.
Once they are in, they are yours to change: drag a dot along the bar to move a color, click the bar to add one, or set any of them by hex. Everything else works as it does in Gradient maker — linear, radial, conic or mesh, smooth or in bands, with blur, a vignette and grain if you want them.
Same as picture makes the gradient exactly the size of the picture you dropped, which is the size you want for a background to put behind it or a matching slide beside it.
