About PDF to PNG
PDF to PNG renders the pages you pick as lossless PNG images on a white background, at the resolution you set.
The same page rendering as PDF to Image, saved losslessly instead. PNG stores exactly what was drawn, so the edges of type and line art stay crisp at any resolution rather than picking up the soft haloes JPEG leaves around high-contrast edges.
The cost is size: a page of text as PNG is usually several times a JPG of the same page. That is the right trade for a diagram, a contract or anything going into a document later, and the wrong one for a page of photographs.
Pages are drawn on white, so a PDF with no background of its own comes out as a page rather than as a transparent rectangle.
